How Whatnot fees work

Whatnot takes two fees from each sale: a commission and a payment processing fee. On a $50 sale at the standard rate, the commission is $4.00 and processing is $1.75, so you keep $44.25.

The commission is charged on the item's sale price only. Whatnot's seller fees page says shipping and taxes paid by the buyer are not included. Most sellers start at 8%. Coins are 4%.

Payment processing is 2.9% + $0.30 per order, and it is charged on everything the buyer pays: the item price, buyer-paid shipping and sales tax. That is why the same item costs you a few cents more in fees when the buyer pays more for shipping or lives somewhere with a higher sales tax.

Buyer-paid shipping is not paid out to you. It covers the Whatnot shipping label. Whatnot's weekly orders report defines your earnings as the sale price minus commission, processing and any shipping you paid for.

How your commission rate changes

Since September 21, 2026, your commission depends on two things: the category you sell in and your total sales over the last four weeks.

  • Standard ($0 – $14,999 in four weeks): 8% in most categories, 4% for Coins
  • Tier 1 ($15,000 – $34,999): 7% to 7.75%, 3.9% for Coins
  • Tier 6 ($500,000+): as low as 4% in Other, 4.5% in Fashion and 3.5% for Coins

Your rate is locked for each four-week period. Crossing into a higher tier lowers your rate for the next period, not straight away. The full table is above the worked examples on this page.

How to pay less on Whatnot

  • Sell more within four weeks. Higher tiers lower the commission on every later sale in the next period.
  • Check the high-value rule. In some categories, Whatnot charges 0% commission on the part of a sale above $1,500. On a $2,000 sale at 8%, commission is $120 instead of $160. Processing still applies to the full amount. Whatnot calls this a limited-time promotion.
  • Keep tips as tips. Whatnot says sellers keep 100% of tips with no commission.

What changed recently

On September 21, 2026, Whatnot replaced its single commission rate with tiered rates by category and four-week sales. Until October 31, 2026, Premier Shops also get a 10% discount on their commission rate. That discount ends on November 1, 2026, and is not included in this calculator.

Questions sellers ask

Does Whatnot charge commission on shipping?

No. Commission is charged on the item's sale price only. Payment processing (2.9% + $0.30) is charged on the full order, including shipping and tax.

Do I get the shipping the buyer pays?
