How Etsy fees work
A typical Etsy sale has three fees: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing of 3% + $0.25. On a $50 sale, that is $0.20 + $3.25 + $1.75, so you keep $44.80.
- The listing fee is $0.20 per item you list, charged when the listing is published or renewed, whether it sells or not. Listings last four months.
- The transaction fee is 6.5% of the item price plus whatever you charge for shipping and gift wrapping. For US sellers it is not charged on sales tax.
- Payment processing is 3% + $0.25 on the full sale, including shipping and sales tax, according to Etsy's payment processing page.
If you sell several of the same item in one order, Etsy charges $0.20 for each extra item sold, and $0.20 again to renew the listing if you have stock left.
Offsite Ads
Etsy advertises some listings on other sites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys within 30 days, you pay an Offsite Ads fee on that order:
- 15% if your shop has made under $10,000 in the last 365 days. Shops this size can opt out.
- 12% once your shop has made $10,000 or more in any 365-day period. It stays at 12% for the life of the shop, and you can no longer opt out.
The fee is never more than $100 per order, according to Etsy's Offsite Ads page. On a $50 sale it is $7.50, which leaves you $37.30 after all fees.
How to pay less on Etsy
- Opt out of Offsite Ads if your shop is under $10,000 a year and the 15% fee outweighs the extra sales.
- List in USD with a USD payment account. Otherwise Etsy charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee on the sale.
- Watch auto-renew. Every renewal costs another $0.20.
